Dance Theatre Rimpparemmi, Sari Palmgren: Kielletyt liikkeet

Kuva: Antti Kurola.

Kielletyt liikkeet (forbidden movements) is a thought-provoking and absurdly humorous performance about the limits of the body, movement, mind, and memory. What moves us? What stops us?

“You mustn’t leave mushrooms in the forest. You mustn’t stomp. Don’t be like your mother. You mustn’t ski without a hat. You mustn’t stare. You mustn’t sit with your legs too far apart. You mustn’t be too much.”

We are guided by rules we did not create ourselves. Whose voice repeats warnings, old truths, and inherited fears in our heads? In the shadows of the mind sit those who know better. Those who whisper warnings before we even step across the line. But who drew the line?

This performance delves into the prohibitions we have been given – and those we have made our own. What happens when the body does what it is not supposed to? When movement becomes inappropriate, strange, playful? When the mind moves? When memories move us?

Stored in the mind’s archive are the schoolyard. Grandpa’s rubber boots. An unresolved argument. Sauna soda. The cry of longing. The threat of violence. A bucket of cloudberries. Forbidden gestures, words, thoughts – all that has been suppressed, and Macarena.

You must not do it. You must not see it. You must not remember it. But if you forget, someone will remind you.

Dance Theatre Minimi, Taneli Törmä: Vapaa Pudotus

Kuva: Petra Kuha.

Vapaa Pudotus (free fall) is a dance piece about the dialogue between control and surrender.

The performance depicts the moment before the fall – an accelerating and stretching time in which the experience of falling is heightened. In free fall, movement detaches itself from balance – from falling and the feeling it brings. In this piece, maintaining balance and letting go of it alternate, both on the level of movement and meaning.

What does it truly mean to take a leap into the unknown? Can the great turning points in life be predicted? What does uncertainty and trust in the face of the unknown look like?

The piece is created by Taneli Törmä, the artistic director of Tanssiteatteri Minimi, together with dancer Katja Mustonen, sound designer Sasu Ripatti, and lighting designer Ruben Rissanen.
